With new viruses being created every day, it is important to keep your anti-virus software up to date. Most antivirus programs will automatically check for updates and you will automatically receive an update when a new virus is discovered.

I come across many people who are already infected with a virus and they say things like ‘we thought we had protection from our internet provider’ – some internet providers will provide you with antivirus software but these have to be installed by you and they don’t necessarily get automatically installed when you set up your internet connection.

Antivirus software is normally an annual subscription which you pay around £30 a year for, if your subscription has expired – again you will not be receiving antivirus updates and therefore not be fully protected.

It is important to go in to your antivirus software and make sure it is up-to-date and protecting your computer properly – however most antivirus programs will normally have an icon down in the taskbar (near the clock) which will alert you if it’s not working properly.
